Can I DIY this?

Possible DIY

DIY is doable — with the right approach.

Minor cases respond well to DIY treatment, but this pest can get away from you. Follow the guide closely, and if you're still seeing activity after a full treatment cycle, it's time to bring in a pro.

  1. Treat pets first — a vet-recommended spot-on, collar, or oral preventive.
  2. Treat indoor cracks, crevices, and pet resting areas with a combined insecticide and insect growth regulator (IGR).
  3. Treat the whole yard, not just a few spots — focus on shaded, brushy, and tall-grass areas, and keep a dry mulch or gravel border between lawn and any wooded edge.
  4. Reapply the yard treatment every 30 days through tick season.
  5. Check pets and family members for ticks after time spent outdoors.

Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes with socks, chemical-resistant gloves, and goggles. Add a respirator if the label calls for it or ventilation is poor.
