  1. Look for the larvae (small, fuzzy, and often striped) rather than just the adult beetles — they're the ones doing the damage to wool, fur, and feathers.
  2. Vacuum thoroughly — carpets, closets, upholstery, and along baseboards — and launder or dry-clean anything infested.
  3. Apply a residual insecticide to carpet edges, closet floors, and other storage areas where larvae hide.
  4. Store natural-fiber clothing and textiles in sealed containers going forward.
  5. Recheck vulnerable storage areas periodically since carpet beetles can persist on pet hair and lint you might miss on the first pass.

Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes with socks, chemical-resistant gloves, and goggles. Add a respirator if the label calls for it or ventilation is poor.
